Content

To begin: my current avatar and this blog’s header are pieces by Moe Harukawa, who will live on forever in our hearts. She’s not dead, as far as I’m aware, but she has disappeared from public life. I am interested in commissioning art for use on this blog and related social media. Should you be particularly interested, please contact me via email with examples and rates — but I will most likely sort this out as initiator in due time. I’m rather tight on cash at the moment. I do feel quite bad using these assets right now, though, so we’ll see how quickly I can sort something out. I am unfortunately quite picky with these things.

I do my best to attribute all content I do not own on their relevant pages. If, for instance, a video game screenshot is included, I have cited the website or video where it was obtained, or claimed it as my own.

As for my written content: all rights are reserved. Do not copy and redistribute my work in full. I have no qualms with other creators using excerpts, quotations, or making reference to the content of this site, though I ask you respect the following conditions.

  • If quoting my content, include a link to the relevant page in-line, as hyperlink, or in another visible section on the same page.
  • If paraphrasing my content, please do so with integrity and respect to the original article, and include a link as outlined above.
  • If directly referencing my content, a link back to the relevant page would be appreciated.
  • If referencing my website in general, a link to this site would be appreciated.
  • If referencing the webmaster, Merry, a link to this site would be appreciated moreso than any other social media.

I really love to ramble. All my writing is protected from the moment of publication in my jurisdiction, but I’d like to make my terms as clear as possible. If you make reference to my content, I’d really appreciate you letting me know via email… it’s good for the ego.

Site

Onto the site itself… to reiterate: this blog is powered by Hux Blog, licensed under Apache License 2.0. You can obtain a copy of the license file here. This site is hosted through CloudFlare Pages. Its repository is private.

Edits have been made to the base code where deemed necessary for customisation or functioning. Though I am not distrubting my source code directly, I believe it appropriate to note significant revisions regardless. Beyond content and configuration, changes include:

  • Disabled support for multilingual pages and toggle.
  • Disabled support for own ads and removed related files.
  • Removed and replaced included image files, including PWA icons and placeholders. There should be no remnants of the creator’s branding in live content.
  • Minor edits to sw.js — just whitelists. Not interested in messing around further, though this cache gets on my nerves…
  • Banners added to relevant code via included gruntfile.js to preserve licenses, as is protocol.
  • Minor modifications have been made to various templates throughout — e.g. removing analytics, comments from various html files.
  • Edited some gemfile dependencies to ensure compatibility with host and keep files running on required versions.
  • Implemented a scrolling progress bar using nanobar.js.
  • Removed support for comments. I’d like to have them back sooner or later, but they’re a tracking nightmare, and I don’t have the time to make them legally-compliant, intuitive, and convenient at present. It’s on the to-do list.
  • Modified default header SEO and Open Graph integration. Cut out much of the defaults and replaced them with the jekyll-seo-tag plugin using its configurations.
  • Modified the Gemfile — the only gems specified are github-pages, jekyll-pages, and jekyll-seo-tag. I found this worked best for building with CloudFlare Pages.

These are all subject to change as I get increasingly tinkerish with the site. I enjoy this, actually.

Again, the most complete and current version of the theme base can be found on its repository. Please consult it for comprehensive documentation and attributions of any source parts. I maintain no claim over my modifications to the site’s source code, nor the Hux Blog base or any of its components.

That said, here’s my best attempt at gathering it all up…

As for my own modifications… I’m not a developer. You shouldn’t use those. Again, please see Hux Blog. I have commented on noteworthy modifications here and in the source code, but I really don’t have the best grasp on how everything here is running. As for my original modifications to the base theme source code, barring my prose and image content and all code itself borrowed from another source such as that generated by jekyll-seo-tag, just… consider them modifications under Hux Blog’s Apache 2.0, c. Merry 2023. I guess. Word salad.
